As daily corona cases decline to 2K threshold, the Erdogan administration is busy planning for a return to “normalcy”. Yet, there are serious suspicions in the medical community that official numbers don’t reflect the reality on the ground and the decisions to relax corona related restrictions may be more driven by politics than good medical science. In this broadcast, Real Turkey lists the suspicions about the official case count and what Turkey has not done which assured early success in other countries. Then, it reviews the economic misery brought about by the outbreak and how it might have undermined Erdogan’s popularity. Finally, it explains why the budget and the monetary authority can’t make it through the year, unless a quick recovery is assured. If politics play a role in the rush to return to normal, the prize to be paid could be the dreaded “second wave”.
