Official Inflation at 35%, Independent ENAG Says 68.7% in June

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 1.37% in June, bringing annual inflation to 35.05%. However, the Inflation Research Group (ENAG)—an independent group of academics and economists—reported a much higher figure. ENAG’s E-CPI registered a 3.05% increase for June, pushing the annual inflation rate to 68.68%.
TÜİK Figures Fall Slightly Below Forecasts
Economists had predicted a 1.53% monthly increase in CPI for June and anticipated annual inflation to ease to 35.26%. The official data from TÜİK came in slightly below these forecasts.
Back in May, monthly inflation was 1.53%, with the annual rate recorded at 35.41%, signaling only a modest deceleration between months.
ENAG Continues to Report Significantly Higher Rates
ENAG’s figures consistently diverge from official statistics. In May, the group reported a 3.66% monthly increase and a 71.23% annual inflation rate. The latest June report indicates a continuing—though slightly slowed—inflationary trend according to ENAG’s methodology.
Year-End Forecast: Under 31%?
Despite ongoing inflation, economists’ projections for year-end inflation remain cautiously optimistic. As of June, the 2025 year-end inflation estimate stands at 30.41%, reflecting expectations of gradual disinflation through the second half of the year.
