Atilla Yeşilada:  Why Erdogan Will Never Win Another Election?

Turkey will hold presidential and general elections within a year, though they could be held earlier.

  • Parliamentary and presidential polls show AKP-MHP and Erdogan falling behind the opposition.

  • Erdogan hasn’t won a presidential poll in 2 months.

  • The voters will punish him for poor economic conditions.

  • Turkish economy is very unlikely to improve until election days.

  • Some pundits claim Erdogan will refuse to accept defeat, or abandon democracy all together.

  • He doesn’t have any institutional support for such efforts.

  • Turkey’s new president will be CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu. The 6-party opposition alliance will control the legislature.
