Yılmaz: Türkiye Committed to Boosting Employment and Reducing Unemployment

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz has reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting employment growth while maintaining focus on permanent disinflation. In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Yılmaz evaluated the latest March 2025 labor statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).
“As we take the necessary steps to establish lasting disinflation, we are also ensuring the effective functioning of our labor markets and continuing to reduce unemployment,” Yılmaz stated.
Türkiye Sees Record Low Unemployment Rate
Highlighting the positive developments, Yılmaz noted that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 7.9% in March 2025, marking the lowest level since the start of monthly labor force data collection in 2005.
The labor force participation rate climbed by 0.4 points to 53.4%, while the number of employed individuals rose by nearly 400,000, reaching 32.6 million.
Focus on Education and Youth Employment
Yılmaz attributed part of the employment improvement to Türkiye’s heavy investments in education, which have significantly increased the number of higher education graduates in recent years.
Thanks to education-aligned employment policies, he explained, more young people are joining the workforce, and the youth employment rate is rising accordingly.
By March 2025, the seasonally adjusted youth labor force participation rate reached 47.4%, while youth unemployment stood at 15.1%.
Multi-Faceted Strategy to Protect and Grow Jobs
Yılmaz emphasized that Türkiye remains firmly committed to the employment-boosting policies outlined in its Medium-Term Program (OVP). He stressed that the government would continue to closely monitor the ongoing transformation in the labor market and would implement multi-dimensional measures to preserve and expand employment across the economy.
“Our goal is clear: to strengthen employment opportunities and advance social welfare,” Yılmaz concluded.
