AKP Poll Shows Low Trust in Economic Leadership, Strong Support for CHP’s Boycott Call

The April public opinion survey commissioned by Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has revealed persistently low public trust in the country’s economic leadership, despite a slight improvement compared to previous months. The study also shows that the Republican People’s Party (CHP)’s boycott campaign has found significant support across society, particularly among opposition voters.
Presented to AKP leadership, the report examined several critical political and economic issues, including inflation expectations, public perception of U.S. trade policies, and reactions to opposition-led movements.
Public Trust in Economic Management Remains Weak
According to the survey:
-
26.1% of respondents stated they “do not trust the economic leadership at all.”
-
Another 36% said they “do not trust” current economic management.
-
Only 3% expressed “full trust”, while 22% said they “trust” the administration to some degree.
-
12.9% remained neutral, saying they neither trust nor distrust the policies.
Despite some minor gains, these figures signal ongoing public skepticism toward the government’s efforts to manage inflation, stabilize the Turkish lira, and address high cost-of-living pressures.
U.S. Import Tariffs Stir Uncertainty on Inflation
The research also explored perceptions of the U.S.’s newly announced 10% import tariff on Turkish goods:
-
33.6% of respondents believe the tariff will not affect inflation.
-
29.9% think it will slightly raise prices.
-
19.7% expect significant inflation increases.
-
Surprisingly, 12.5% believe it will reduce inflation, while 4.3% expect a substantial decrease in inflation.
These varied opinions reflect uncertainty over global trade impacts and public confusion over economic messaging.
CHP’s Boycott Call Resonates with the Public
The most striking result came from public reaction to the CHP’s boycott campaign.
-
62.2% of respondents support the boycott, aligning with opposition efforts to protest perceived injustices and policies.
-
37.8% oppose the movement.
The study also notes that attitudes toward the boycott closely correlate with political affiliation, underlining the increasing polarization of public opinion in Türkiye.
