Bahçeli Warns of Rising Iran Tensions, Calls on Türkiye to Prepare for “All Scenarios”

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli warned that escalating tensions between Iran and the U.S.–Israel alliance could destabilize the Middle East and pose risks for Türkiye. He said Ankara must remain vigilant and prepared for “all possible scenarios,” while calling for a ceasefire to prevent a wider regional war.
Bahçeli: Global system entering a period of upheaval
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of Türkiye’s Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), said the international order established after World War II is entering a period of profound transformation, warning that the world is witnessing the “growing pains” of a new global system.
According to Bahçeli, the geopolitical structure created after 1945 is gradually dissolving, giving way to a new and uncertain international environment.
“In such twilight periods, we must strengthen our sense of solidarity and reinforce our national unity and brotherhood at the highest level,” Bahçeli said, emphasizing the importance of internal cohesion during global instability.
“Terror-Free Türkiye” central to national strategy
Bahçeli also reiterated his long-standing call for a “Terror-Free Türkiye,” presenting it as a cornerstone of the country’s long-term strategic vision.
He argued that eliminating terrorism entirely would allow Türkiye to move forward more confidently in what President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has described as the “Century of Türkiye.”
“The national revival spirit that will build and restore a Terror-Free Türkiye in the second quarter of the new century will accomplish many remarkable achievements,” Bahçeli said.
He added that Türkiye is rapidly shedding the burdens that have historically constrained its rise, arguing that no hostile actor will be able to halt the country’s strategic trajectory.
“A waking and rising giant cannot be stopped by any adversarial force attempting to interrupt its historic march,” he said.
Warning over Iran tensions
Bahçeli devoted a significant portion of his remarks to the escalating tensions surrounding Iran, warning that the situation could spiral into a broader regional conflict.
He said the developments involving Iran must be closely monitored, stressing that wars are easy to start but far harder to end.
The MHP leader suggested that the United States and Israel are facing increasing challenges in their confrontation with Iran, both militarily and politically.
“It is becoming clear that the U.S. and Israel are beginning to falter against Iran, while internal divisions in their own societies appear to be intensifying,” he said.
Risk of a wider regional conflict
Bahçeli warned that the crisis could expand into a larger regional war, particularly if geopolitical rivalries draw other actors into the confrontation.
He suggested that some geopolitical scenarios may attempt to pit Türkiye against Iran or provoke tensions between Iran and Gulf states, developments he said would further destabilize the region.
Türkiye, he said, is closely monitoring these risks and will not tolerate any threat to its national security.
“We will not bow to any threat, nor can we,” Bahçeli stated.
“We must be ready for all scenarios”
Bahçeli argued that the rising cost of the confrontation between Iran and the U.S.–Israel alliance could intensify instability across the Middle East.
As the military, political, and economic burden of the conflict grows, he warned, the risks accumulating around Türkiye may also increase.
“As the military, political, and economic burden of the U.S.–Israel partnership against Iran grows heavier, the dangers gathering around us will intensify. We must be prepared for all scenarios,” he said.
Concerns over energy security
Bahçeli also warned that a broader conflict could disrupt global energy supplies.
He highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf for international oil and gas transportation, saying any disruption in these routes could have significant consequences for the global economy.
He added that civilians, particularly children, are often the greatest victims of war and that the ongoing escalation is wounding the conscience of the international community.
Call for ceasefire
Despite his warnings, Bahçeli called for diplomatic restraint and a de-escalation of tensions.
He urged the parties involved to pursue an immediate ceasefire before the crisis evolves into a larger war.
“A ceasefire mechanism must be activated while there is still time. Hands should unite in pursuit of compromise rather than pulling triggers,” he said.
Bahçeli also warned that a military campaign against Iran could produce unintended consequences for Washington and its allies.
According to him, Iran could become “a new Afghanistan, a new Iraq, or even a new Vietnam” for the United States and Israel.
Türkiye’s security remains the priority
Bahçeli concluded by emphasizing that protecting Türkiye’s national security must remain the country’s foremost priority.
He said Ankara must remain vigilant against any developments that could put the country at risk and reiterated that Türkiye will defend its sovereignty and independence under all circumstances.
The MHP leader also responded to criticism directed at his party, saying the Nationalist Movement Party remains committed to safeguarding the Turkish nation’s survival and national interests.
“The Nationalist Movement Party is the Turkish nation’s last fortress, its final defensive line, and the last bullet to be fired against enemies,” he said.
