CHP Overtakes AK Party in Metropoll Poll as Nationalist Bloc Rises
election
The latest Metropoll Research survey has revealed striking shifts in Türkiye’s political landscape. According to the August poll, when undecided voters are distributed, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) climbs to the top with 32.2%, surpassing the AK Party, which falls to 31.3%. This marks a reversal from May and June, when the ruling party had maintained the lead.
Surge in Nationalist Voters
The poll highlights significant momentum among nationalist parties. Collectively, İYİ Party, Victory Party (Zafer Partisi), and Anahtar Party secured 16.3% of the vote share. Meanwhile, DEM Party stood at 7.6%, MHP at 5.1%, and Yeniden Refah Party at 2.7%.
Public Opposition to “New Peace Process”
One of the most notable findings concerns public opinion on the proposed “new opening/peace process”. A clear majority — 59.7% of respondents — expressed opposition, while only 34.9% supported the idea. Even among MHP voters, support for the process dropped sharply to 35.6%.
Interestingly, the poll also measured opinions on CHP’s stance toward the process. While 48.6% believe CHP should support it, 41.7% opposed such a move, reflecting internal divisions within the broader electorate.
These results suggest not only a reshuffling in Türkiye’s party rankings but also a deepening polarization around nationalist sentiment and peace initiatives.
