Retail prices in Istanbul continued their upward trend in July 2025, with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) Consumer Price Index showing a monthly increase of 2.62%, according to the ITO 2023=100 base index. On an annual basis, prices jumped 42.48% compared to July 2024, reflecting persistent inflationary pressures in Türkiye’s largest city.

In its latest announcement, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce detailed the breakdown of price hikes across various consumer spending categories. The sharpest monthly increase was recorded in the healthcare group, which surged by 8.08%. This was followed by:

• Miscellaneous Goods & Services: +3.15%

• Communication: +2.48%

• Household Goods: +2.36%

The ITO attributed July’s price hikes to three primary factors:

1. Government-Regulated Increases: Notably in healthcare, housing, and alcohol-tobacco, where some price movements were directly influenced by public sector policies and regulatory updates.

2. Market Dynamics: Price changes in categories such as miscellaneous goods, household equipment, and restaurants & hotels were largely market-driven, shaped by inflationary cost pressures and consumer demand.

3. Seasonal Effects: The food and non-alcoholic beverages category reflected price adjustments linked to seasonal agricultural supply conditions, a common trend during the summer months.

Health Group Sees Largest Monthly Spike

Among all tracked categories, healthcare costs experienced the steepest monthly rise at 8.08%, indicating increased burdens on household budgets for medical services and products — a likely reflection of either regulatory pricing adjustments or cost pass-throughs from suppliers.
