Greta Thunberg Among Four Deported by Israel After Gaza Aid Mission

Greta Thunberg

Climate activist Greta Thunberg and three other international passengers aboard the Madleen—a humanitarian aid vessel aiming to break the blockade on Gaza—have been deported from Israel, according to an official statement by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The four were among 12 individuals on board the Madleen sailing yacht, which departed with aid supplies for Gaza and included high-profile figures such as Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and Irish actor Liam Cunningham.

Deportation to France Confirmed by Israeli Authorities

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that Thunberg and three fellow activists had been put on a French-bound flight and removed from Israeli territory. The post included a photo of Thunberg on the aircraft, stating she was en route to France.

Meanwhile, five French nationals who were also aboard the Madleen are expected to stand trial in an Israeli court.

Thunberg’s Role in the Gaza-Bound Mission

Greta Thunberg was one of 12 passengers aboard the Madleen, which set sail with the aim of delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in war-torn Gaza. The mission, organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was intercepted and boarded by Israeli forces in the Mediterranean.

The operation and resulting detentions have sparked international scrutiny, with human rights advocates calling for greater protection of humanitarian workers operating in conflict zones.
