Heatwave Grips Türkiye: Diyarbakır to Hit 42°C, Local Storms in Northeast
Turkey heatwaves
Türkiye is bracing for an extended heatwave as temperatures rise well above seasonal norms, according to the latest July 21, 2025 forecast from the Meteorology General Directorate. While much of the country will experience clear and scorching weather, localized thunderstorms are expected in parts of the East Black Sea, Northern Eastern Anatolia, and the Taurus Mountains.
Scorching Temperatures Across Türkiye
Extreme heat continues to dominate the weather outlook, especially in the Aegean, Southeastern, and Central Anatolia regions. Diyarbakır is forecast to reach a sweltering 42°C, while Muğla and Malatya are expected to hit 39°C, and Gaziantep and Siirt 40°C. Most urban centers are recording highs above 34°C, raising concerns about heat-related health risks and increased energy demand.
Local Storms in the Northeast, Strong Winds in the East
Despite the overall dryness, local showers and thunderstorms are forecast for:
-
Ordu
-
Eastern Black Sea coast
-
Northern Eastern Anatolia
-
Taurus Mountains (Toroslar region)
Meanwhile, strong northerly and southeasterly winds will sweep across Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, with gusts reaching 50 km/h, potentially causing roof damage and transportation disruptions.
