Mazlum Abdi Announces Agreement with HTS: SDF to Join Syrian Army

The leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazlum Abdi, has announced that the SDF will become an integral part of a unified Syrian army as part of a broader political settlement. He emphasized that the group does not seek separatism and has reached an agreement with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) regarding Syria’s future.

Unifying the Kurdish Position

Abdi also discussed his ongoing dialogue with the Kurdish National Council (ENKS), the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). He stated that these talks aim to unify the Kurdish stance in preparation for negotiations with the Syrian government in Damascus.

“In the coming days, we will meet with Kurdish parties and forces to organize a joint visit to Damascus,” Abdi said. Earlier this week, he met with an ENKS delegation, which reportedly included representatives from the International Coalition Against ISIS.

“We Are Not Seeking Separatism”

Commenting on discussions between the SDF and the Syrian government, Abdi reiterated his commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity:

“We are not seeking separatism. The SDF envisions being an integral part of a united Syrian army as part of a broader political solution. Our goal is to build a democratic and unified Syria that respects the rights of all communities.”

Talks with the Syrian Interim Government

Referring to his recent meeting with President Colani of the Syrian Interim Government, Abdi provided updates on discussions with HTS:

“Our talks with HTS are progressing, focusing on preventing any initiatives that could threaten Syria’s security or unity. We have reached an agreement on the integration of the SDF into a unified Syrian army within the framework of a political solution. However, discussions are ongoing regarding the mechanisms and timeline for implementing these terms.”

Abdi emphasized that further negotiations are needed to finalize the details of the agreement, including its implementation process.
