Central bank governor change pushes up inflation expectations significantly

According to the Central Bank’s Expectations Survey for April 2021, consumer inflation (CPI) expectations rose to 13.12 percent from 11.54 percent announced in the previous survey period.

CPI expectations for 12 months increased similarly, from 10.47 percent to 11.26 percent. CPI expectations after 24 months were 9.18 percent and 9.55 percent, respectively.

Dollar/TL expectations at 8.57

According to the CBRT Expectations Survey, the expectation of the dollar/TL exchange rate at the end of 2021 also increased. The 7.9455 expectation in the March survey was 8.5749, a significant increase from the latest March poll. The exchange rate expectation for 12 months ahead reached TL 8.78 during this survey period from TL 8.20 in the previous survey period.

Growth forecast down

Growth expectations for 2021 fell to 4.3 percent during this survey period from 4.4 percent in the previous survey period. Growth expectations for 2022 were 4.2 percent, unchanged from the previous survey period.
