Turkey Crude Oil Shipments Report: Volatility Hits Pipelines
Turkey oil pipelines
According to the latest ”Turkey Crude Oil Shipments Report” data from BOTAŞ, crude oil shipments through Turkey’s critical pipeline network contracted notably in February 2026. Total volume fell from 27,739,000 barrels in January to 26,949,000 barrels in February, representing a 2.8% monthly decrease. The decline was primarily driven by reduced flows through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and Iraq-Turkey pipelines, reflecting broader geopolitical shifts and maintenance schedules in the Caspian and Middle Eastern energy corridors.
Pipeline Performance Breakdown: February 2026
The performance of Turkey’s international and domestic lines varied significantly during the second month of the year. While major international routes faced headwinds, certain domestic corridors in Turkey saw unexpected surges in crude oil shipments.
| Pipeline Route | Jan 2026 (Barrels) | Feb 2026 (Barrels) | Monthly Change (%) |
| Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) | 16,125,000 | 14,818,000 | -8.1% |
| Iraq-Turkey Pipeline | 6,283,000 | 5,856,000 | -6.8% |
| Batman-Dörtyol | 1,672,000 | 4,118,000 | +146.3% |
| Ceyhan-Kırıkkale | — | 1,907,000 | Decrease |
| Dörtyol-Ceyhan | — | 250,000 | Decrease |
Analysis of Major Declines: BTC and Iraq-Turkey
The BTC Pipeline, the backbone of Turkey’s energy transit role, recorded an 8.1% drop. This continues the downward trend compared with the high-performance months of March and April 2025, when volumes consistently exceeded 18.5 million barrels. Analysts point to shifting production quotas and regional security concerns in the Caucasus as contributing factors to the current level of 14.8 million barrels.
Similarly, the Iraq-Turkey Pipeline saw a 6.8% decline, falling to 5.8 million barrels. This line remains sensitive to ongoing political negotiations between Baghdad and Erbil over revenue sharing and export protocols, as well as to the line’s technical integrity amid regional tensions in the Persian Gulf.
The Batman-Dörtyol Surge
The most striking data point in the February report is the 146% increase in the Batman-Dörtyol line. Shipments skyrocketed from 1.67 million barrels in January to over 4.1 million barrels in February. This surge likely reflects an increase in domestic production from the Southeastern Anatolia region or a strategic redirection of stored reserves toward the Mediterranean coast to meet rising demand at the Dörtyol terminal.
