Mansur Yavaş has been sentenced to public scrutiny as the Ministry of Interior grants permission for a formal investigation into the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor. The investigation centers on allegations that municipal vehicles were utilized during a 2023 general election campaign rally in Karabük. Yavaş, who maintains a reputation for fiscal transparency, categorically denied the claims, calling them politically motivated “slanders” with no legal weight.

Claims of Misuse: The 2023 Campaign Controversy

The Ministry’s decision to authorize the Mansur Yavaş investigation stems from complaints that ABB resources were mobilized to support a presidential campaign event. In response, Yavaş held a comprehensive press conference to address the details of the case file and the legal process ahead. He argued that his administration has set a national example for protecting public funds, stating, “In our management approach, the rights of the unborn and the underprivileged are paramount. These types of slanders simply do not stick to me.”

Yavaş pointed to what he describes as a double standard in the judicial system. He noted that while government ministers frequently utilize state-owned vehicles for election purposes without consequence, an official investigation has been launched against an administrator known for personal austerity. “Everyone knows that ministers travel everywhere in public vehicles during elections; conversely, they are calling to account someone who specifically avoids doing so,” Yavaş told journalist Saygı Öztürk.

During his defense, Yavaş emphasized his long-standing commitment to avoiding the personal use of municipal perks.
