In a powerful address to his parliamentary group, MHP Leader Devlet Bahçeli delivered a blistering critique of the escalating conflict between the U.S.-Israel coalition and Iran. Marking the 11th day of what he termed a “dirty war,” Bahçeli warned against international efforts to destabilize the region by using ethnic groups as pawns. Specifically, he addressed rumors of mobilizing Kurdish populations to undermine the Iranian regime from within.
“Kürts are Not Hitmen”: A Rejection of Proxy Warfare
Bahçeli stood firm against any foreign intelligence agendas seeking to recruit Kurdish citizens for regional sabotage. “Our Kurdish brothers are not for sale, not for rent, and they are not hitmen,” Bahçeli declared, emphasizing that they should not serve as mercenaries for any global power.
While acknowledging Iran’s recent apologies regarding Turkish airspace violations, Bahçeli noted that the repeated interception of Iranian munitions by NATO elements on March 9 has raised serious concerns. He cautioned Tehran that Türkiye is not a country where “anyone who is bored can fire a missile,” stressing that while Ankara values neighborly relations, it will not tolerate being treated as a “passageway” for errant weaponry.
The İBB Corruption Trial: Calls for Live Broadcasts
Shifting his focus to domestic affairs, Bahçeli addressed the ongoing “Trial of the Century” involving former Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 406 other defendants. Facing bribery, tender rigging, and money-laundering charges, the trial has become a flashpoint for political tension. Bahçeli criticized the defense’s conduct, accusing them of turning the courtroom into a “show arena.”
He reiterated his previous demand for the proceedings to be broadcast live on television, stating:
“Were we wrong to say let the white sheep and black sheep be distinguished before the eyes of the nation? The events of today have proven us right. No one is above the law.”
Criticism of the Opposition’s Defense Stance
The MHP leader also took aim at the CHP leadership, labeling their criticisms of Türkiye’s military capabilities as “unconscious.” He dismissed claims that the country lacks sufficient air defense or that S-400 systems are being hidden in hangars. Bahçeli argued that undermining national defense during a period of regional “geographical earthquakes” is incompatible with patriotism, urging the opposition to respect the legacy of the Republic rather than disparaging its security infrastructure.
