Youth Support Strong for İmamoğlu in Latest Poll, Erdoğan Leads Among Middle-Aged Voters

İmamoğlu vs Erdoğan

A new survey by Ankara Research and Consultancy reveals distinct generational divides in presidential election preferences between Ekrem İmamoğlu and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The poll, which analyzed voter support by age group, shows İmamoğlu leading in two age categories, while Erdoğan holds a narrow lead among middle-aged voters.

Young Voters Back İmamoğlu by a Wide Margin

Among 18–34-year-olds, a commanding 62.5% said they would vote for Ekrem İmamoğlu, compared to just 26.2% for President Erdoğan. This shows a strong shift in political sentiment among Turkey’s younger generations, who appear to favor change and new leadership.

Middle-Aged Voters Lean Slightly Toward Erdoğan

In the 34–55 age group, support tips toward Erdoğan, with 46.5% choosing the current president, while 42.8% prefer İmamoğlu. The results in this demographic remain closely contested, suggesting a polarized political climate among working-age citizens.

İmamoğlu Also Leads Among Senior Voters

Surprisingly, the poll also shows İmamoğlu leading among voters aged 55 and older, with 54.3% support, while Erdoğan garners 34.7% in this category. This result defies typical expectations, as older demographics often lean toward conservative incumbents.

The findings underscore the growing generational dynamics in Turkish politics, with youth-driven support shaping future electoral outcomes. If current trends hold, İmamoğlu may emerge as a formidable challenger in upcoming presidential elections.
