Amidst improving Turko-American relations, headlined by confirmed reports that Trump is pulling most of the American troops from Syria, Turkey’s main complaint about Pentagon aiding PKK-affiliated Syrian Kurds, Turkish press frequently reports Trump is going to meet Erdogan soon. A summit in White House would raise Erdogan’s prestige at home, while attracting some theme-based EM funds to Turkey. But, is there any truth to thje alleged summit? Here is what PA Turkey found:
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to visit Rome on April 29, where he will meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as part of the fourth Türkiye–Italy intergovernmental summit.
The high-level gathering will focus on strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation, with new initiatives aimed at expanding the current $32 billion trade volume between the two countriesç Caliber.Az reports, citing “Türkiye” newspaper.
Following his visit to Italy, Erdogan is expected to travel to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in early May to attend the TEKNOFEST technology and aviation festival.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for Erdogan’s potential visit to the United States, although no final date has been confirmed. Erdogan is also expected to visit Azerbaijan in May, continuing a string of high-level international engagements.
Looking ahead, both Erdogan and US President Donald Trump are scheduled to participate in the NATO Leaders Summit, which will be held in The Hague, Netherlands, on June 24–25. However, Turkish and US officials are reportedly working toward arranging a bilateral meeting before the NATO summit, either in Türkiye or in the United States.
In a related development, a CNN report on April 17, citing White House sources, noted that Trump is considering a Middle East tour next month, which could include visits to Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. A final decision on the itinerary has yet to be announced.
President Erdogan has recently reiterated the importance of revitalising Turkish–US relations, placing particular emphasis on economic ties. He has expressed a desire to boost bilateral trade from the current $40 billion to $100 billion, highlighting the vast potential for expanded cooperation in various sectors. (By Tamilla Hasanova)
