Türkiye’s Retail Trade Sales Volume Up 9.2% in March 2025 Year-on-Year

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), retail trade sales volume in March 2025 rose 9.2% year-on-year, while the overall trade sales volume—including wholesale and motor vehicle sales—increased 10.8% compared to March 2024.
The data, based on the 2021=100 index, indicates robust annual growth across most segments of Türkiye’s commerce sector.
Vehicle and Wholesale Trade Lead Annual Gains
-
Sales in the motor vehicles and motorcycles category, covering both retail and repair activities, rose by 12.8% year-on-year.
-
Wholesale trade sales volume increased by 11.1% annually, reflecting strong B2B demand and inventory flows.
Monthly Retail Sales Dip Despite General Trade Growth
On a monthly basis, total trade sales volume increased by 5.0% in March 2025 compared to February.
-
Motor vehicle and motorcycle trade and repair sales rose 3.6% month-on-month.
-
Wholesale trade saw a solid 8.1% increase.
-
However, retail trade sales volume slipped by 1.4%, suggesting a slowdown in consumer spending possibly linked to price sensitivity or seasonal adjustment.
Consumer Behavior Reflects Uneven Economic Trends
While overall commercial activity remains resilient, the decline in monthly retail volume highlights uncertainty in consumer demand amid broader economic fluctuations. Analysts suggest continued monitoring of monthly retail trends, especially with ongoing inflationary pressures and credit reliance influencing household purchasing decisions.
