Türkiye Refutes Claims of Irregular Migration Surge Along Iran Border

The Presidential Directorate of Communications’ Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has officially denied allegations circulating on social media that irregular migration is increasing along the Türkiye–Iran border. In a public statement, the DMM described these claims as fabricated and manipulative, asserting that they were deliberately spread to fuel xenophobia and incite unrest amid heightened regional tensions following the Israel–Iran conflict.
Türkiye’s Border Security: 24/7 Surveillance and High-Tech Systems
DMM emphasized that Türkiye’s eastern borders are safeguarded by a comprehensive security infrastructure, including:
-
Reinforced security walls
-
Thermal imaging systems
-
Electro-optical surveillance towers
-
High-intensity lighting systems
-
Armored patrol vehicles
-
Elevator-mounted watchtowers
These systems operate around the clock, leaving little room for unauthorized crossings.
The Ministry of Interior also confirmed that no unusual movement or concentration of migrants has been observed along the Türkiye–Iran frontier. Authorities emphasized that security forces remain fully prepared to identify and prevent any illegal border activity.
Disinformation to Face Legal Action
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that the government has launched legal proceedings against those spreading false narratives online. According to Tunç, some posts falsely claimed that Iranian nationals were entering Türkiye en masse, exploiting regional instability to mislead the public and sow panic.
“Content meant to provoke outrage and disrupt public peace will not be tolerated,” Tunç said on social media, adding that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had opened a formal investigation into the offending accounts.
Amid rumors of increased irregular migration along the Türkiye-Iran border, Turkish authorities have categorically denied the claims, emphasizing that no such activity exists and highlighting the role of high-tech border surveillance. Meanwhile, legal steps are being taken to address disinformation campaigns attempting to exploit the current Middle East unrest for internal disruption.
