At the Türkiye-Greece Business Forum in Istanbul, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay emphasized that Ankara and Athens are deepening cooperation across various sectors with the shared goal of achieving $10 billion in bilateral trade. The forum marks a significant step in enhancing regional connectivity and sustainable economic relations between the two neighboring nations.

Bozay credited the 2023 high-level visit by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Greece, where an agreement was reached with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to intensify economic ties. Since then, foreign ministries from both sides have maintained close communication to advance this agenda.

Trade as a Catalyst for Stability and Regional Prosperity

Bozay underlined that the $10 billion trade target is not only an economic benchmark, but a strategic objective for regional stability and diversified partnerships.

“We are embarking on a new phase of engagement supported by high-level dialogue and a positive agenda,” he said.

Highlighting tourism exchange, Bozay noted that 1.1 million Turkish tourists visited Greece in the past year, while 670,000 Greeks traveled to Türkiye.

“Let’s use this momentum to enhance sustainable friendship and economic vitality,” he urged.

He also stressed the need to diversify cooperation in transportation, logistics, and infrastructure, which can support resilient bilateral ties.

Greek Deputy FM Highlights Shared Responsibility and Energy Cooperation

Greece’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, Tasos Chatzivasileiou, echoed Bozay’s message, stating that the two governments are committed to fostering trade based on good neighborly relations and respect for international law.

He confirmed that bilateral trade volume has exceeded $5 billion, with active efforts underway to reach the $10 billion goal.

Chatzivasileiou also pointed to energy collaboration as a key growth area, emphasizing cross-border electricity and infrastructure projects under the leadership of the Mitsotakis government.

“Joint business networks are essential to scale up investment and trade,” he said.

Business Forum Seen as Milestone for Regional Economic Integration

Both officials stressed the importance of people-to-people connectivity, business diplomacy, and shared regional interests in boosting trade, tourism, and infrastructure. The forum is seen as a cornerstone for new joint ventures and expanded collaboration in strategic sectors such as energy, transport, and innovation.
