Summary:
A Turkish hacker group calling itself “Cyber Islam” reportedly infiltrated airport announcement systems in the United States and Canada, playing anti-Trump, anti-Netanyahu, and pro-Palestinian messages over loudspeakers. U.S. federal authorities have launched a full-scale investigation, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy vowing that “those responsible will be found.”
Hacking Incident at Harrisburg International Airport
On October 14, the public announcement system at Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) in Pennsylvania was hijacked for approximately 10 minutes. Travelers were startled when loudspeakers began playing a pre-recorded message containing the phrases “Free Palestine” and several expletives directed at U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to airport spokesperson Scott Miller, “An unauthorized user gained access to our announcement system and broadcast a recorded message. There was no security threat to passengers or airport operations.”
The message also included the phrase, “Turkish hacker Cyber Islam was here.”
Airport IT staff quickly shut down the system and identified the source of the intrusion before alerting federal authorities. During the breach, a Delta Air Lines flight was briefly grounded as a precaution but later departed safely after routine security checks.
Federal Investigation Underway
The incident is being investigated in coordination with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy condemned the attack, saying:
“This is unacceptable and caused unnecessary alarm among passengers. We will find those responsible and ensure they are held accountable.”
Cybersecurity teams are now working to determine how the attackers gained access to the airport’s internal network and whether additional U.S. infrastructure systems were targeted.
Similar Attacks Reported in Canada
Authorities in Canada confirmed that similar incidents occurred at Kelowna, Victoria, and Windsor airports, where the same pre-recorded audio was reportedly played through terminal loudspeakers.
Canadian airport officials have not confirmed whether the attacks were coordinated or part of a larger campaign. However, both U.S. and Canadian cybersecurity agencies are now investigating possible links between the incidents.
The group identifying itself as “Cyber Islam” has not made any verified public statements, and its origins and motives remain unclear.
