According to the May 2025 LPG Market Report published by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), Turkey’s LPG imports dropped by 14.04% compared to the same month last year, totaling 280,981 tons. Despite the dip in imports, LPG exports surged by 90.76%, marking a sharp shift in trade dynamics.

LPG Imports Fall, Sourced from 5 Countries

The bulk of LPG imports in May came from Algeria, Russia, the United States, Georgia, and Italy, indicating continued supply diversification. The decline in import volume suggests a combination of lower demand, higher domestic production, or shifting pricing strategies.

Domestic LPG Production Jumps 29%

Refineries ramped up domestic output, with LPG production increasing by 29.12% year-on-year to reach 84,742 tons in May. This boost in local production may have partially offset the need for imports and supported growing export volumes.

LPG Exports Nearly Double

LPG exports by refiners and distributors skyrocketed to 54,536 tons, a 90.76% increase compared to May 2024. Turkey exported to 11 destinations, including the UAE, Lebanon, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Ukraine, KKTC, Singapore, Romania, Greece, Turkey Free Zones, and Liberia—a strong indicator of expanded regional LPG trade.

Domestic Sales Down 3.05% as Consumption Softens

Total domestic LPG sales reached 332,270 tons, a 3.05% decline from the same month last year. Breakdown by type:

  • Tüplü (cylinder) LPG: 45,733 tons (–2.28%)

  • Dökme (bulk) LPG: 10,200 tons (–3.68%)

  • Otogaz LPG: 276,337 tons (–3.15%)

Otogaz continues to dominate the market with 83.17% share, followed by tüplü LPG at 13.76% and bulk LPG at 3.07%.

Additionally, 5,017 tons of standardized LPG were sold during the month.

While imports declined, production and exports surged, indicating a strategic rebalancing of supply and trade. The slight dip in domestic consumption may reflect seasonal trends, price sensitivity, or shifting consumer behavior—but Turkey’s growing export reach signals stronger regional positioning in the LPG supply chain.
