Turkey Ranks Among World’s Top 10 for Organized Crime as Gangs Advertise “Services” Online

Turkey has climbed into the top tier of the world’s most crime-affected countries, according to the latest Global Organized Crime Index, with analysts warning that criminal networks are expanding their reach through social media platforms where violent services are openly advertised for a fee.

Turkey Among Top 10 Countries for Criminal Activity

The Global Organized Crime Index places Turkey 10th out of 193 countries, underscoring a sharp rise in the influence of criminal networks.
The report says these groups are bolstered not only by their underground ties but also by political and economic connections that provide “de facto immunity.” A lack of coordination between the judiciary and executive authorities has further weakened institutional efforts to curb criminal activity.

Experts say the problem is compounded by the emergence of a growing “digital crime market,” where illicit services are marketed and sold in plain sight.

A Growing Online Marketplace for Violent Crime

Investigations reveal that several online platforms now host posts offering contract killings, armed attacks, assaults, human smuggling, illegal weapons, and bank accounts for underground gambling schemes.

According to reporting by T24, multiple accounts openly posted offers such as “armed attacks,” “shooting up businesses,” and “breaking arms or legs.”
One account listed prices of 530,000–550,000 Turkish lira for shooting at a shop, 700,000 lira for targeting a person in public, and up to 1.2 million lira for shootings carried out indoors.

Another account offered to “injure or break a limb” for 25,000 lira, requesting the target’s name, photo, and personal information.

Posts Promise ‘Assassinations in Every Province’

Searches for “new-generation crime groups” bring up dozens of posts advertising “assassinations in every province,” “business shootings,” and “any job done.”
These posts rarely use coded language. Users who contact the accounts are reportedly told: “Prices change depending on where the weapon comes from.”

Illegal Weapons: From 10,000 to 300,000 Lira

Investigators also uncovered multiple listings for unregistered firearms.
Photos showed scratched-off serial numbers, pump-action shotguns, and long-barreled weapons. Prices ranged from 10,000 to 300,000 lira, depending on the model.

Human Smuggling With ‘Guaranteed Transit’

One advert offered “guaranteed passage to Europe.”
The scheme allegedly involved flying migrants from Turkey to Bosnia and then transferring them into EU territory using a vehicle “made to look like an official government car.”
The fee: €4,500 per person, with discounts for groups.

Stolen Vehicles, Betting Accounts, and Drug Sales

Other posts indicated that vehicles without plates or documentation were being brought from Europe to Turkey and sold for parts.

Illegal betting networks were also advertising bank-account rentals.
According to one listing, people over 23 were offered 1,500 lira per day, while those under 23 were paid 1,200 lira.

Meanwhile, accounts calling themselves “e-dealers” advertised the sale of methamphetamine, cannabis, and other drugs through courier systems.
