Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced that the government’s intensified campaign against the informal economy is beginning to show tangible outcomes, with the number of filed tax declarations approaching 5 million.

In a post on his official X account, Şimşek thanked taxpayers who accurately and promptly declared their income, while reminding others of their remaining options.

“We thank those who have submitted their income statements properly and on time. For those who have not yet filed or declared incomplete information, we remind you that you can still benefit from the repentance provisions,”
Şimşek said.

Progress in Formalizing the Economy

The announcement highlights ongoing efforts by the Turkish government to boost revenue collection, improve fiscal transparency, and broaden the tax base by targeting undeclared income and off-the-books economic activity.
