Author and academic Prof. Dr. Mümtaz’er Türköne – close to MHP leader Bahçeli- shared his predictions regarding the ongoing solution process, sparked by a recent political move from MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.

Türköne stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is likely to derail the solution process, after which Bahçeli will push for early elections.

“Erdoğan Will Undermine the Process, Bahçeli Will Trigger Early Elections”

Türköne believes that Erdoğan will gradually scale back the process—not because he opposes it entirely, but because he sees the process as a potential threat to his political dominance. “A return to the rule of law, which the solution process requires, would undercut Erdoğan’s hegemonic power,” Türköne said. “So he will attempt to weaken it step by step.”

“Bahçeli’s Project: Turks and Kurds as One Nation”

Pointing to Bahçeli’s firm stance, Türköne noted: “For Bahçeli, the solution process is central. He supports it unwaveringly and opposes anything that would obstruct it. He is currently engaged in a project that envisions Turks and Kurds as one nation. I’m expressing this for the first time publicly, but I truly believe it.”

“Bahçeli and Öcalan Are Building a New Nation State”

In his interview with T24’s Cansu Çamlıbel, Türköne made a striking observation: “Bahçeli and Öcalan are building a new nation state through this solution process. If legal reforms do not accompany this process, it cannot succeed. Bahçeli knows this. That’s why he said, ‘Imamoğlu’s case is political; let’s end it as soon as possible.’ Putting İmamoğlu on trial over ‘urban reconciliation’ undermines the entire process.”

Türköne also suggested that if no viable political alternative emerges to continue the process, Bahçeli could even pave the way for CHP rule. “If elections are held and the CHP comes to power, a return to the rule of law will happen naturally. Without law, this process has no chance. If that’s what it takes to preserve the solution process, Bahçeli will make that move.”
