Türkiye’s leading bus and military vehicle manufacturer Otokar has signed a landmark deal with Daimler Buses and Mercedes-Benz Türk to locally produce the Mercedes-Benz Conecto model at its Sakarya plant.

Strategic Partnership with Daimler Buses

According to a disclosure filed with the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the agreement outlines a clear division of responsibilities: Daimler Buses and Mercedes-Benz Türk will supply all essential components and materials, while Otokar will oversee assembly and production services.

The Conecto, a model widely used in public transportation across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond, will now be manufactured locally in Türkiye. This move highlights Türkiye’s growing role as a regional hub in the global automotive supply chain.

Production Timeline

Preparations for the new production line in Sakarya are expected to be finalized by September 2026, with initial output beginning shortly thereafter. Full-scale serial production is scheduled for 2027.

The contract runs until the end of 2029 and guarantees a minimum production of 1,400 buses during this period. However, final production volumes will remain flexible, depending on market demand and export opportunities.

Conecto’s Legacy in Türkiye

The Conecto has a long history in Türkiye. Since 1996, the model has been produced at Mercedes-Benz Türk’s facility in Istanbul. By shifting production to Otokar’s Sakarya plant, the collaboration is set to optimize capacity, cut costs, and expand output for domestic and international markets.

Otokar’s Growing Role in Mobility

Founded in 1963 and part of Koç Holding, Otokar is one of Türkiye’s most prominent manufacturers of commercial vehicles and defense equipment. Its product range includes buses, trucks, and armored vehicles, with exports reaching more than 60 countries worldwide.

The Sakarya facility, where the Conecto will now be produced, is Otokar’s main production hub and a critical site for the company’s expanding operations in both civilian and military sectors.

Global Significance

The agreement not only strengthens Türkiye’s automotive industry, but also represents a significant step for Daimler Buses in reinforcing its European supply chain. By localizing Conecto production, the companies aim to increase competitiveness, reduce delivery times, and expand the model’s footprint in new markets.
