New Regulation: Tracking and Camera Systems Now Mandatory in Vehicles
Vehicle Cameras
A new amendment to the Highways Traffic Regulation, published in the Official Gazette, introduces a mandatory requirement for tracking systems, cameras, recording devices, and emergency buttons in vehicles. The rule will be applied gradually based on vehicle model years.
Implementation Timeline
According to NTV, the requirement will be immediately mandatory for newly registered vehicles after the regulation takes effect. However, vehicles already on the road will have extended deadlines depending on their model year:
-
2025–2023 models: Exempt until their first inspection after January 1, 2026
-
2022–2018 models: Exempt until their first inspection after January 1, 2027
-
2017 and older models: Exempt until their first inspection after January 1, 2028
Special Rules for School Buses
School buses have a separate transition process. Vehicles registered between February 18, 2025, and October 1, 2025, and already equipped with devices under the old regulation, will remain exempt until their first inspection after December 31, 2027.
Purpose and Safety Goals
The regulation grants a 30-day adaptation period for compliance with these safety features. Authorities underline that the move is aimed at improving safety in public transport and commercial vehicles, reducing risks for passengers and drivers.
