Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, currently detained in Silivri Prison as part of an investigation into the municipality, has issued a public call to action from behind bars. In a statement released via the official “Presidential Campaign Office” X account, İmamoğlu invited citizens in Turkey and abroad to join his vision for a better future.

“Beautiful people of Turkey, my brothers and sisters abroad—are you ready?” he asked.

The message, shared on social media, marks İmamoğlu’s first direct public outreach since being arrested on March 19 and formally detained on March 23. He continues to face charges amid a broader political crackdown.

“I’m making this announcement from here: You are invited to contribute to the future of Turkey! You are invited to share your ideas and proposals with us. Our Presidential Campaign Office will grow stronger with your support,” the message read.

İmamoğlu, considered a top challenger to President Erdoğan, emphasized participatory democracy, calling for collective input as his campaign moves forward despite his detention.
