Government to Present New Wage Proposal to Public Servants at 18:30

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan announced that the government will present a new wage offer to public servants at 6:30 PM, amid ongoing disputes in the 8th Term Collective Agreement negotiations.
Initial Offer Rejected
The government’s first proposal included:

2026: 10% raise in the first half, 6% in the second

2027: 4% raise in the first half, 4% in the second
The Memur-Sen union immediately rejected the offer, calling it unserious. Union leader Ali Yalçın stated: “We reject this reckless proposal. There is nothing here to negotiate.”
Second Round: Limited Improvement
Following further talks, the government proposed an additional 1,000 TL increase to base salaries. However, Yalçın criticized the move, warning: “If a negotiable proposal is not presented, we will launch a nationwide strike on August 18 and march to the Ministry of Finance.”
Union Demands
Memur-Sen outlined significantly higher demands:

For 2026: +10,000 TL increase to base salary, +10% welfare share, and 25% raise in the first half of the year

For 2027: +7,500 TL increase to base salary, 20% raise in the first half and 15% in the second half
In total, the union is seeking an 88% raise in 2026 and a 47% raise in 2027, along with inflation adjustments paid as soon as monthly inflation exceeds the agreed increase, with an additional 2% on top.
The outcome of tonight’s meeting could determine whether the standoff continues into mass public-sector strikes.
