Google and Android Services Face Outage Across Türkiye and Europe

google

Users across Türkiye and several European countries experienced difficulties accessing Google, Android, and related services, according to outage tracker Downdetector. Reports indicated that the disruption was not limited to Türkiye but spread across multiple regions.

The issue, which emerged on Monday, quickly became a trending topic online as thousands of users complained of login problems, connection failures, and slow access to Google platforms.

Government Response

Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ömer Fatih Sayan confirmed the outage, noting that Turkish authorities immediately reached out to Google for clarification:

“Our National Cyber Incident Response Center has requested a technical report from Google regarding the cause of the outage. We are closely monitoring the process,” he wrote on X.

Push for Local Technology and 5G Development

Sayan also used the occasion to stress the importance of domestic software and hardware in critical infrastructure, linking the disruption to Türkiye’s push for digital independence:

“These outages demonstrate how important local and national products are. This is why we have worked extensively to increase localization in 5G, both in software and hardware. Our current local share stands at 60%, and we will continue to raise it.”

The remarks highlight Ankara’s ongoing efforts to reduce dependence on foreign providers in areas such as telecommunications, data security, and network resilience.

Google Yet to Comment

As of now, Google has not issued any official statement about the cause or scope of the outage. Technical experts note that such disruptions often stem from regional server failures, configuration errors, or global infrastructure issues.

With Europe also affected, analysts suggest the problem may lie at the backbone connectivity level, impacting Google’s broader ecosystem rather than Türkiye-specific systems.

Broader Implications

The outage reignited debate in Türkiye over the need for:

  • Improved digital sovereignty through national cloud and data centers.

  • Resilient 5G networks powered by local technology.

  • Stronger cooperation between regulators and global tech giants.

Until Google releases an official report, the root cause of the disruption remains unclear.
