Erdogan: Türkiye Poised to Withstand U.S. Tariffs, Eyes Economic Growth

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Wednesday that Türkiye does not anticipate any negative consequences for its trade, production, or exports stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly imposed tariffs, which came into force this week.

Türkiye was among the few countries to receive a minimal 10% reciprocal tariff, placing it in a favorable position compared to other trading partners subjected to significantly higher levies.

Economic Program Shields Türkiye from Global Uncertainty

In a speech to members of the ruling AK Party, Erdogan emphasized the strength of Türkiye’s economic program, saying it had made the country more resilient to external economic shocks. He projected that Türkiye would experience stronger medium- to long-term growth than many of its global peers.

“There is serious uncertainty in the world, but there is a strong economic program that illuminates Türkiye’s path,”
Erdogan said.
“We think we will overcome this period more easily than many countries, since we are one of the low-tariff countries.”

Disinflation and Fiscal Discipline to Continue

Erdogan also reiterated that Türkiye’s disinflation trend is ongoing, and that the spending discipline and cost-saving measures initiated last year will continue throughout the current year.

Türkiye Seen as Potential Beneficiary Amid Global Tariff Shake-Up

Although Türkiye’s steel, aluminum, and iron exports were previously affected by U.S. tariffs, the country is now positioned to benefit from reduced competition, as other global exporters face higher trade barriers under the Trump administration’s latest policy moves.
