Erdoğan: “PKK to Lay Down Arms, A New Era Begins for Türkiye”

During a closed-door meeting with ministers and AK Party lawmakers at party headquarters, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that Türkiye is on the verge of a historic shift. Referring to the “Terror-Free Türkiye” process, Erdoğan stated that the country had overcome major obstacles, and that the PKK was expected to lay down arms and disband “any day now.”
“We’ve overcome all barriers. PKK is on the brink of disarmament. A new phase will begin for all of us,” Erdoğan said.
“We Must Manage the Process Without Seeking Political Gain”
Erdoğan warned that this would not be an easy transition, emphasizing the need for political maturity and collective responsibility from elected officials. He urged party members to prepare for potential political exploitation by various groups.
“This won’t be an easy process. But I trust you to manage it wisely. Some may try to benefit politically—be ready for that,” he said.
On Istanbul Municipality Probe: “Let the Judiciary Do Its Job”
According to Habertürk, Erdoğan also addressed the ongoing financial crimes investigation into Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Stressing judicial independence, he commented:
“Our duty is to ensure the judiciary can carry out its responsibilities. The legal process must remain independent.”
Tourism Season Sparks Warnings Over Price Surges
Another major topic on the agenda was the sharp rise in tourism prices ahead of the summer season. Erdoğan warned that excessive price hikes in accommodation, dining, and transportation could harm Türkiye’s tourism image.
“We need a consistent pricing policy. Practices that disrupt the balance in tourism should be avoided.”
He instructed relevant ministries to develop a coordinated roadmap to maintain price stability in the sector, ensuring that Türkiye remains a competitive and attractive destination.
