President Erdoğan Slams CHP: They “Wrote the Book” on Coups
Erdoğan
President Erdoğan slams CHP during a high-stakes AK Party group meeting on April 1, 2026. Erdoğan launched a scathing verbal offensive against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and its leader, Özgür Özel. Addressing his lawmakers, Erdoğan asserted that the rhetoric is rooted in historical fact and alleged that the main opposition party has a long-standing “tradition” of aligning with anti-democratic forces.
“In this country, the CHP wrote the book on coup-plotting and juntas,” Erdoğan declared, adding that supporting such movements has become the party’s “national sport.”
Allegations of Historical Coup Complicity and “Character” Flaws
President Erdoğan focuses heavily on the opposition’s historical silhouette in Turkey’s turbulent political past. Erdoğan cited several key events, including the May 27, 1960 coup, the 1971 memorandum, and the 1980 military takeover, claiming the CHP’s ideology served as an inspiration for these interventions. The president further accused the party of providing “logistical support” during the Gezi Park protests and the December 17-25 judicial investigations, which the government defines as a coup attempt.
Erdoğan did not hold back on personal critiques either, targeting CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. He described the opposition leader as having a “distorted mindset” and accused him of using “foul language” that lacks political etiquette.
“We are facing a political rival that is neither suitable for our caliber nor our quality,” the President remarked, emphasizing that the AK Party has maintained its “dignity” despite what he called the opposition’s “symphony of insults.”
5G Technology and the 2026 World Cup: A Vision for the Future
Beyond the political sparring, President Erdoğan‘s speech was balanced with national milestones and technological progress. Erdoğan celebrated a new era in Turkish telecommunications, announcing that Turkey has officially met 5G technology. He promised that 5G, which offers data speeds ten times faster than 4.5G, would be expanded across the entire country within two years, starting with high-traffic urban zones.
In a moment of national pride, the President also congratulated the Turkish National Football Team for securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup by defeating Kosovo in the play-off final.
