Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has outlined three major strategic projects—Development Road, the Middle Corridor, and new regional transport routes—that could redefine Türkiye’s role in global logistics, energy security, and trade flows. The projects are expected to generate tens of billions of dollars in economic gains while strengthening Türkiye’s geopolitical position.
Türkiye at the Center of Global Logistics
Speaking at the AK Party Eastern Black Sea Regional Strategy Meeting in Trabzon, Minister Uraloğlu emphasized Türkiye’s unique geographic advantage:
- Access to 67 countries within a four-hour flight radius
- A surrounding economic zone of over $50 trillion GDP
- Proximity to 1.5 billion people
He noted that Türkiye is not just geographically central, but increasingly becoming a global logistics hub connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Development Road Project: A Game-Changer
The flagship initiative is the Development Road Project, a multi-modal corridor linking the Gulf to Europe via Türkiye.
Key features:
- Starting point: Iraq’s Faw Port
- Integrated infrastructure:
- Railways
- Highways
- Energy transmission lines
- Total route: ~2,100 km across Türkiye
Strategic advantage:
- China–Europe shipping times:
- Via Suez Canal: 35 days
- Via Cape of Good Hope: 45 days
- Via Development Road: 25 days
👉 This reduction could significantly reshape global supply chains.

👉 12 logistics centers emerged along the route after completion
The Middle Corridor and Zangezur Route
Middle Corridor
- Connects China to Europe via rail in 18 days
- Built around the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway
Zangezur Corridor
- Will provide direct access to the Turkic world
- Connects Türkiye with Azerbaijan via Nakhchivan
- Expected to advance further in 2026
These routes aim to diversify trade pathways and reduce reliance on traditional maritime routes.
Expanding Regional Connectivity
Uraloğlu also highlighted additional emerging corridors:
- Oman–Saudi Arabia–Jordan–Syria–Türkiye route
- Lapis Lazuli Corridor (Afghanistan–Turkmenistan–Türkiye)
- Three Seas Initiative (Baltic–Adriatic–Black Sea connectivity)
👉 These projects position Türkiye at the center of a multi-corridor global logistics strategy.
Energy Security and Geopolitical Relevance
With rising tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, alternative corridors have gained urgency.
Uraloğlu noted:
- Diversified routes can reduce global energy supply risks
- Türkiye could become a critical energy transit hub
