President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Türkiye’s economy is currently at its most resilient level in history, despite global shocks triggered by escalating regional conflict. Speaking after a cabinet meeting, he warned against further escalation in the Middle East, criticized Israel’s stance, and stressed that Türkiye would continue to pursue stability, diplomacy, and economic protection measures.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Israel’s “maximalist and uncompromising” policies risk undermining diplomatic solutions and deepening instability in the region.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan urged the international community not to support actions that could escalate conflict further.

“No country that values global peace and stability should fuel the fire Israel has unjustly ignited in our region,” he said, adding that Türkiye would continue to deploy “all available means” to promote peace, justice, and stability.

Türkiye aims to stay outside “ring of fire”

Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye is determined to remain outside the widening conflict zone and avoid being drawn into what he described as a potential war of attrition between regional actors.

He warned that prolonged conflict could deepen divisions across the Middle East, particularly if retaliatory actions spread to Gulf countries.

“War leaves destruction not only in cities and infrastructure, but also in minds and hearts,” Erdoğan said, cautioning that escalating retaliation risks fueling long-term hostility and fragmentation.

The Turkish president highlighted the economic fallout of the conflict, pointing to disruptions in global energy markets.

He warned that instability around the Strait of Hormuz—through which roughly 20% of global oil trade passes—has already triggered significant volatility.

According to Erdoğan, Brent crude prices have risen by around 40% since late February, prompting some countries to introduce emergency measures such as fuel rationing and school closures to curb consumption.

He added that growing economic costs have accelerated global calls for an end to the conflict.

“War’s cost borne by entire world”

Erdoğan argued that while the conflict may be driven by Israeli leadership, its consequences are global.

“This may be Israel’s war, but the price is being paid by the entire world,” he said, adding that the humanitarian and economic toll is affecting billions.

He called for an immediate ceasefire and the rapid launch of meaningful negotiations, warning that prolonged conflict could inflict lasting damage on the global economy.

Domestic measures and economic resilience

Turning to domestic policy, Erdoğan said the government is closely monitoring market volatility stemming from the regional crisis, particularly rising oil prices.

He noted that Türkiye is implementing measures similar to the “eşel mobil” system—designed to cushion fuel price shocks—to protect consumers.

“Türkiye’s economic resilience threshold is currently at the highest level in its history,” Erdoğan said, expressing confidence in the country’s ability to withstand external shocks.

He attributed this resilience to political stability and a sustained climate of trust in governance, arguing that maintaining these conditions is key to navigating future challenges.

Cabinet decisions and regulatory adjustments

The president also said the cabinet reviewed a wide range of domestic issues, including traffic safety and new regulations concerning vehicle license plates and audiovisual systems.

He instructed the Interior Ministry to ensure that enforcement of these measures does not create unnecessary hardship for citizens.

Strategic messaging on stability

Erdoğan framed Türkiye as a country capable of independent decision-making and strategic resilience, citing past crises—from coup attempts to natural disasters—as evidence of institutional strength.

He reiterated that maintaining political stability would remain essential to overcoming both domestic and global challenges.
