Erdoğan’s Warning: “Hands Reaching for Türkiye Will Burn”
Erdoğan
In a high-stakes address at the AK Party group meeting on March 11, 2026, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a powerful warning to global actors amid the escalating U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict. On the 105th anniversary of the adoption of the Turkish National Anthem, Erdoğan signaled that while Türkiye remains a staunch advocate for peace, it is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty against any external threats.
“Hodri Meydan”: A Call to Sovereignty
President Erdoğan directly addressed the systematic campaigns run by “anti-Türkiye lobbies” and the rising tensions on the nation’s borders. He made it clear that the “New Türkiye” is no longer a passive observer but a proactive “game-maker” in regional geopolitics.
“The hand that reaches for Türkiye and the tongue that speaks against us will burn,” Erdoğan declared. “We have no eye on any country’s territory or sovereignty. But if there are those seeking adventure or eyeing our lands, we do not hesitate to say ‘Hodri Meydan’ (I challenge you).”
Refencing the July 15 attempted coup, he reminded the international community that Türkiye has already proven its ability to defeat both internal traitors and the global powers that pull their strings.
The Human Toll: 2,000 Dead in Iranian Conflict
Discussing the humanitarian disaster unfolding in neighboring Iran, Erdoğan shared harrowing statistics from the conflict triggered by Israeli provocations. He reported that on the first day alone, 175 female students were killed, with the total death toll in Iran now reaching 2,000.
Erdoğan warned that “the whole world is preparing to pay the bill for this war,” noting the severe pressure on the global economy and energy markets. He criticized the “bloodthirsty network” driving the violence and revealed he has conducted over 20 high-level diplomatic phone calls to halt the spread of the war.
Rejecting Sectarianism: “Our Only Religion is Islam”
A major portion of the speech was dedicated to national and regional unity. Erdoğan slammed social media campaigns attempting to spark a Sunni-Shia divide within Türkiye and the broader Middle East.
-
Humanitarian Focus: “For us, there is no Arab, Kurd, Sunni, or Shia; there is only the human being.”
-
Theological Unity: “We do not have a religion called ‘Sunnism’ or ‘Shiism.’ Our only religion is Islam. Hz. Ali is ours, Hz. Omar is ours.”
-
Active Neutrality: Türkiye continues to engage with both the U.S. and Iran to find a diplomatic exit before the conflict engulfs the entire region.
Internal Strength and Strategic Patience
Erdoğan concluded by emphasizing that Türkiye has “strengthened its internal front.” By refusing to ignore the crises facing its brothers and neighbors, Türkiye is positioning itself as a mediator willing to take risks for the sake of permanent peace in the Middle East. He urged citizens to avoid pointless sectarian debates and remain focused on national unity during this “epoch of fire.”
