Davutoğlu: “There Is No Justice in the Islamic World”
ahmet davutoglu
Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu criticized governance standards across Muslim-majority countries, saying justice, transparency, and moral integrity have eroded in the Islamic world — including Türkiye. Speaking during Ramadan, he called for political unity and urged Turkey’s parliament to respond forcefully to controversial remarks by the U.S. ambassador to Israel.
“Islamic Countries Are Failing on Justice”
Ahmet Davutoğlu, leader of the Future Party, said Muslim-majority nations — including Türkiye — suffer from severe income inequality, lack of transparency, and deep social problems.
“In the geography that includes our country, income distribution is among the worst, transparency is absent, drug consumption is widespread, and betting and gambling have become pervasive,” Davutoğlu said.
He framed his remarks as a broader moral self-critique of the Islamic world, arguing that many societies have drifted away from the ethical and justice-based principles emphasized in Islam.
“If we have strayed from what our religion commands and what our Prophet exemplified, we cannot simply sit at Ramadan iftar tables and believe we have fulfilled our duties,” he said.
Call for Political Unity During Ramadan
Davutoğlu described Ramadan not only as a month of sharing but also as a time for reflection and accountability.
“The world is going through a major systemic earthquake,” he said, adding that the Islamic world is “surrounded by a ring of fire.”
He referenced ongoing conflicts and crises, including Gaza, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, East Turkestan, and the Rohingya issue at the International Court of Justice.
Davutoğlu urged Turkish political leaders — both in government and opposition — to set aside partisan divisions and act with a united voice on issues affecting the broader Muslim world.
“We must first be good examples to our own society as politicians, then as a country to the Islamic world, and finally help the Islamic world become a positive example for humanity,” he said.
Response to U.S. Ambassador’s Remarks
Davutoğlu also called on the Turkish parliament to respond to controversial statements attributed to the U.S. ambassador to Israel regarding territorial claims from “the Nile to the Euphrates.”
He urged all political parties in the Grand National Assembly to adopt a joint resolution affirming that:
-
Palestine belongs to the Palestinian people
-
Türkiye’s territorial integrity is non-negotiable
-
Any expansionist rhetoric must be firmly rejected
“It is time to respond to such arrogance with a strong and unified voice from our parliament,” he said.
Criticism of Global Inaction
Davutoğlu criticized what he described as the international community’s failure to halt Israeli military operations in Gaza and elsewhere in the region. He questioned why Israeli leaders were invited to international forums despite ongoing military campaigns.
He also called on Türkiye to take a leading role in legal proceedings concerning the Rohingya case at the International Court of Justice.
“Türkiye must be a strong voice and firm hand against every injustice targeting the Islamic world,” he said.
A Broader Self-Reflection
Beyond geopolitics, Davutoğlu’s speech focused on internal shortcomings within Muslim societies.
He argued that justice — the central value symbolically associated with the Ramadan iftar gathering where he spoke — is no longer adequately upheld across many Islamic countries.
“May God grant us days when Muslims are seen as trustworthy, conscientious, and moral — when the Islamic world sets an example for humanity,” he concluded.
