23 Detained in Istanbul Celebrity Drug Probe

Turkish authorities have detained 23 people as part of a high-profile drug and vice investigation targeting celebrities in Istanbul, according to information emerging from the ongoing probe.
The investigation is being conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, with operations carried out by the Istanbul Police Department’s Narcotics Crimes Unit. In recent raids, police conducted simultaneous searches at multiple addresses and seized materials they considered evidence.
Well-Known Figures Allegedly Detained
Among those allegedly detained are several well-known figures, including former national footballer Ümit Karan, social media influencer Merve Sanay, and actors Deniz Berk Cengiz, Bade Nogay, Melisa Şahin, Emre Yalçın, Ahmet Şaşmaz, and Nazlıcan Taşkın, according to media reports.
One of the most striking allegations involves Mert Ayaydın, described as the heir to a major clothing company. Ayaydın is also allegedly a cousin of AKP Istanbul MP Derya Ayaydın. Authorities have not yet issued an official confirmation regarding individual identities.
After police procedures, the suspects were referred to the courthouse.

In a statement, prosecutors said the suspects are being investigated on allegations including:

Background of the Case
The probe first became public earlier this week, when 18 people were detained in an initial wave of operations.
In its earlier official statement, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said the investigation was being conducted under a 2025 case file, and that police units specializing in narcotics and organized crime carried out detention, search, and seizure operations.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is being conducted meticulously and that further developments are expected.
