According to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the total number of registered passenger cars in Türkiye reached 17,117,983 last month.
Among them, electric vehicles (EVs) continue to climb at a remarkable pace. Lower carbon emissions, expanding charging infrastructure, and the popularity of Türkiye’s domestic EV brand Togg have fueled a rapid shift toward electric mobility.
EV Numbers Soar From 565 to 330,000+ in 10 Years
In 2015, Türkiye had just 565 registered electric cars. By October 2024, that figure had risen to 153,772 — and as of last month, the number has skyrocketed to 332,010.
This represents an astonishing 116% year-on-year increase recorded in October. EVs now account for 1.9% of all registered passenger cars, nearly doubling from 1% in October 2024.
Rising Demand for Hybrid Vehicles
Interest in hybrid vehicles is also surging. The first available data from 2011 recorded only 23 hybrid cars in traffic. By 2019, the number increased to 13,877.
Hybrid ownership has accelerated sharply in recent years:
-
2023 year-end: 222,328 registered hybrids
-
2024: 391,296
-
October 2025: 623,907
Their share of total vehicles rose from 2.2% in October 2024 to 3.6% last month, highlighting shifting consumer preferences toward cleaner, more efficient technologies.
Türkiye’s Transformation to Low-Emission Mobility
The rapid adoption of EV and hybrid vehicles reflects a combination of:
-
Growing environmental awareness
-
Government-backed electrification policies
-
Wider availability of charging stations
-
Strong market demand for Togg and global hybrid models
