TOGG Overtakes Tesla in Turkey’s EV Race
togg
The Turkish auto market continues to heat up, and October 2025 delivered another surprise. According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), leadership changed hands once again — not only in total sales but also in the passenger car segment. The new market leader: Volkswagen.
The results show how fiercely competitive Turkey’s auto industry has become, especially as local and global giants battle for dominance across combustion and electric categories.
Volkswagen Claims the Crown in October
In October, Volkswagen emerged as the top-selling brand in the combined automobile and light commercial vehicle market, with 13,509 units sold. Renault and Fiat followed in second and third place respectively.
Focusing solely on passenger cars, the hierarchy remained the same. Volkswagen boosted its sales by an impressive 42.28% compared to October 2024, reaching 11,001 vehicles sold. Renault ranked second with 10,666 units, while Toyota — whose sales surged 93.50% — took third place with 7,506 cars sold.
This strong performance reflects Volkswagen’s successful strategy to capture both conventional and crossover segments amid a market still adjusting to fluctuating prices and evolving consumer demand.
Renault Holds Its Lead Over 10 Months
While Volkswagen dominated the October chart, Renault remains the overall leader in 2025’s cumulative results. Between January and October, Renault sold 104,500 vehicles, securing the top spot in the combined (passenger + light commercial) market. Fiat followed with 93,811 units, while Volkswagen held third with 84,068.
In the passenger car category, Renault also maintained leadership with 90,358 sales. Volkswagen ranked second at 65,110 units, followed by Toyota with 60,560.
Electric Showdown: Togg Dethrones Tesla
October 2025 marked a historic shift in Turkey’s fast-growing electric vehicle (BEV) market. For the first time, Tesla lost its long-held crown to Turkey’s domestic automaker Togg.
Togg’s performance was bolstered by the new fastback model T10F, which sold 2,532 units, and the flagship T10X, which added 1,623 units. Combined, Togg sold 4,155 electric vehicles in October — making it the clear BEV leader for the month.
Behind Togg came Volvo (1,314 units) and Citroen (1,161 units). Tesla, in a stunning twist, delivered zero vehicles in October, ending the month with no sales at all.
Togg Takes the 10-Month Lead in BEV Sales
This single month proved decisive for the year-to-date leaderboard. Over the first 10 months of 2025, Togg reached 27,480 total sales, narrowly surpassing Tesla’s 27,420 — a mere 60-vehicle gap that turned the tide.
With this result, Togg officially became Turkey’s best-selling electric car brand, marking a milestone for the nation’s automotive ambitions. Tesla’s absence in October deliveries proved costly, allowing Togg to seize momentum.
Despite losing the brand title, Tesla’s Model Y still held on as the best-selling electric model overall, with 27,420 units sold in the first 10 months. Togg’s T10X followed with 23,754 units, securing second place among all models.
