Turkey Fines Netflix, Disney, Prime and Others Over “Values Violations”

Turkey’s media watchdog RTÜK has slapped five global streaming platforms, including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, HBO Max, and MUBI, with fines and content removals, citing violations of “national and moral values.” Each platform was hit with a 3% administrative fine and ordered to remove specific titles from their catalogs.

Prime Video – Those About To Die cited for “graphic executions, violent scenes, and sexual same-sex relationships” said to breach the principle of family protection.

Netflix – Cobalt Blue flagged for “encouraging homosexuality” and deemed contrary to “national and moral values.”

HBO Max – Looking: The Movie accused of “intense homosexual content and nudity,” ruled as “obscenity.”

MUBI – Benedetta penalized for “pornographic-level obscenity” and “disrespect to religious beliefs.”
Broader Crackdown
RTÜK said the penalties were based on violations of “public morality, protection of family, and respect for faith.” The move is the latest in a series of regulatory actions against international streaming services in Turkey, where debates over censorship vs. cultural protection remain heated.
