Heavy Rain to Hit Istanbul and 10 Provinces
Rain in Bosphorus
The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) has issued its latest weather forecast, warning that heavy rain showers are expected in Istanbul and 10 other provinces. The rainfall will primarily affect the northern and central regions of Turkey, while other areas will continue to experience above-seasonal temperatures.
According to the forecast, Kırklareli’s northern coast, Istanbul’s northern districts, parts of the Black Sea, and sections of the Mediterranean are expected to be the most affected.
Cloudy Skies and Regional Showers
Meteorologists announced that much of the country will be partly cloudy to overcast, with intermittent rainfall across several provinces.
Areas forecast to receive showers include:
-
Marmara Region: Istanbul (northern coast), Kırklareli
-
Mediterranean Region: Antalya’s interior, parts of the Eastern Mediterranean
-
Central Anatolia: Northeastern provinces
-
Black Sea Region: Western coastal areas, Central and Eastern sections, Karabük, Kastamonu
-
Eastern Anatolia: Malatya, Tunceli, Erzincan, Ardahan, and northern Erzurum
The rest of Turkey is expected to remain clear and less cloudy, offering a calmer weather pattern.
Temperatures Above Seasonal Norms
While rain will cool conditions in certain areas, overall temperatures will remain above seasonal averages across most of Turkey.
-
Central Anatolia & Mediterranean: Temperatures will hover around seasonal norms.
-
Western, Eastern, and Northern Turkey: Readings will continue to exceed long-term averages.
Citizens are advised to be cautious of sudden weather changes, especially in provinces prone to heavy showers.
Weather Outlook: A Mixed Pattern
Meteorologists emphasized that Turkey will experience a dual weather pattern:
-
Stormy conditions in the north and interior regions.
-
Warmer, clearer skies across much of the west and southeast.
This combination highlights the country’s transitional climate zone, where regional variations often create sharp contrasts in daily conditions.
Public Advisory
The Meteorological Service urged residents, especially in rain-affected provinces, to:
-
Take precautions against localized flooding and slippery roads.
-
Stay updated with daily forecasts for sudden weather shifts.
-
Prepare for higher-than-normal temperatures in unaffected regions, which may stress vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children.
North Gets Rain, Rest Stays Warm
As Turkey moves through September, the forecast suggests a blend of heavy rainfall and lingering heat. While Istanbul and northern provinces brace for showers, most of the country will continue to experience above-average warmth.
