World Bank Provides $650 Million to Boost Istanbul’s Earthquake and Climate Resilience

The World Bank has approved $650 million in external financing to strengthen Istanbul’s disaster and climate resilience, enhance pre-disaster preparedness, and improve emergency response capacity.
With this latest funding, the total amount of external resources allocated to improving Istanbul’s disaster resilience will rise to $5.4 billion.
Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek emphasized that support for earthquake preparedness and disaster management capacity in Istanbul will continue strongly.
He added that the government’s economic programs, which prioritize sustainable growth and social welfare, will also reinforce efforts to prepare Istanbul for potential earthquakes and strengthen its resilience against disasters.
