6.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Balıkesir, Strongly Felt in Istanbul

A powerful earthquake shook Istanbul and surrounding regions, with the tremor’s epicenter located in Balıkesir, according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The quake, measuring magnitude 6.1, struck at a depth of 11 kilometers.
Shortly after the main shock, an aftershock with a magnitude of 4.6 was recorded.
The earthquake was not only felt strongly across Istanbul but also across a large portion of the Aegean region, prompting concern among residents and leading to temporary disruptions in daily activities.
