Patent Applications Surge in 2025, but 60% Fail Without Expert Help

Patent Applications

Despite economic headwinds, patent activity in Turkey rose sharply in the first half of 2025, signaling sustained investment in R&D and innovation. According to Faruk Yamankaradeniz, CEO of Destek Patent, domestic patent and utility model filings increased by 17% in the first five months of the year. Meanwhile, trademark applications within Destek Patent’s own portfolio skyrocketed by 96%, reflecting a broader trend of companies seeking intellectual property protection amid market volatility.

60% of Unrepresented Patent Applications Are Rejected

Citing a report by Dünya Gazetesi, Yamankaradeniz underscored a major vulnerability in Turkey’s innovation ecosystem: the lack of public awareness about industrial property rights. He revealed that 60% of patent and trademark filings made without professional representation end in failure.

These failures don’t just cost time—they also result in lost resources, legal setbacks, and reputational damage, particularly for SMEs unfamiliar with the complexity of patent law. Some errors, Yamankaradeniz noted, can cost businesses up to 1 million TL if left uncorrected.

🔍 Expert Guidance Is Key to Patent Success

Yamankaradeniz emphasized the importance of expert legal and technical support during the application process. Destek Patent’s impressive 96% approval rate, he said, is largely due to their strategic consulting model, which helps minimize the risks of rejection and streamlines the journey from idea to intellectual property asset.

Destek Patent Expands Global Network

With a history dating back to 1983, Destek Patent is one of Turkey’s most established firms in the intellectual property sector. Yamankaradeniz noted that the company is expanding internationally, with new offices in Dubai, Kazakhstan, and the UK, strengthening its global client base.

The firm also took part in the INTA Annual Meeting in San Diego, one of the most prestigious global events in the industrial property field. Yamankaradeniz said the event helped forge new international partnerships, and emphasized Turkey’s presence on the world stage.

Patent Growth Driven by Tech and Green Innovation

Finally, Yamankaradeniz highlighted the growing number of patent applications in fields like software, green technologies, and biotechnology. He attributed this trend to digitization and the rise of artificial intelligence, which are reshaping innovation priorities and expanding the scope of patentable ideas.
