Turkish Pediatrician Buys Newborn Baby from Mother, Scandal Exposed After Fall Injury
Baby
A shocking case of human trafficking in Turkey has surfaced, involving a pediatrician at Kuşadası State Hospital, who allegedly purchased a newborn baby from its biological mother. The case came to light after the doctor accidentally dropped the baby and brought it back to the hospital for treatment.
9-Day-Old Baby ‘Bought’ from Mother
According to Yeni Asır, Şebnem E., a female pediatrician, is accused of paying money to a woman who had just given birth at Kuşadası State Hospital, after the mother reportedly claimed she could not care for the child. The doctor took the 9-day-old baby to her home and even hired a nanny.
However, after tripping and dropping the baby, the doctor panicked and allegedly tried to have the child treated at the hospital—posing as if it belonged to someone else.
Nurse Noticed the Bruises
The incident came to light thanks to the alertness of ICU nurses who noticed bruising on the baby’s face and head. After reporting the injury, the baby was transferred to Aydın Adnan Menderes University Hospital for further care. On the transfer document, the doctor wrote: “The baby has no mother or father, so I deemed it necessary to send it out of town.”
Authorities have since launched a criminal investigation into human trafficking and negligent injury.
Doctor Confessed to Buying the Baby
During police questioning, Şebnem E. reportedly confessed that she had no children of her own and had paid for the baby from a mother who gave birth 11 days earlier at the hospital.
Legal and Ethical Outrage
This incident has sparked nationwide outrage, raising serious questions about child protection laws, medical ethics, and human trafficking prevention in Turkey. Prosecutors are currently investigating the full extent of the offense, including possible violations of medical conduct and illegal adoption practices.
